The palette unfolds like a Palm Beach sunset. “All tones of pink, from dusty rose to sunset glow, were mixed with creams, ivories and Palm Beach green to create a tropical flair that immediately captures the hues of island life,” Bullard says. Outside, shutters painted Benjamin Moore Vintage establish the rosy premise before the color story moves indoors.
The custom Alice in Wonderland pool daybed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard Atelier, painted in Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White CC-20, is layered with pillows in Perennials’ Loop De Loop in Blanca, Summit Furniture’s Di Medici in Blush and Samuel & Sons’ Terrace chenille loop fringe.
In the living room, an MLB Atelier sofa is joined by vintage Jaymar chairs upholstered in S. Harris Serpent fabric and vintage Pacha chairs covered in Pierre Frey boucle. Custom pink lacquer Morphic tables amplify the room’s sculptural quality, while Rosemary Hallgarten rose quartz ombre alpaca-linen curtains from The Shade Store soften the light. A Paolo Moschino chandelier hangs above a Silk Road rug, and pillows in Egg & Dart Guitar, Tibor Cymbeline Rose and Nobilis Bargello add layers of pattern. Presiding over it all is an Andy Warhol screen print of Marilyn Monroe—the patron saint, perhaps, of any proper pink palace.
In the upstairs sitting room, Martyn Lawrence Bullard Atelier seating pairs with Palmier wallcovering in Blanche from his collection. The Shade Store drapery and Russell Young’s Marilyn Monroe diamond-dust artwork complete the layered space.
The dining room offers a moodier counterpoint. A vintage Carlo Scarpa table is surrounded by MLB Atelier chairs upholstered in Marsala Toray Ultrasuede, beneath an Etoile chandelier by Atelier de Troupe. A lacquer-and-bronze cabinet from Hive Palm Beach adds burnished depth. Black-and-white photography curated by Los Angeles’ Fahey/Klein Gallery fills the walls, punctuated by Russell Young’s diamond-dust portrait of Audrey Hepburn.
In the dressing room, Cole & Son’s Palm Leaves wallpaper in pink and mint sets a playful tone, complemented by an island painted in Benjamin Moore’s Fruit Shake 2088- 60 and outer cabinetry in Minty Green 2042-70.
That photography collection presented one of the project’s defining challenges. “We had amassed a beautiful fashion- themed photography collection for Ms. Keyes that needed to become the stars of the new interiors,” Bullard says. With soaring walls in the kitchen and dining room, “we needed to create gallery walls that would not only show off the collection to its best advantage but also allow each piece to tell its own story.” In the Poliform kitchen, Douglas Kirkland’s portrait of Brigitte Bardot hangs above vintage Charles Hollis Jones Lucite stools from Christopher Anthony, while Atelier de Troupe pendants, a Le Creuset pot and an Addison Ross scalloped tray bring polish to the everyday.
The primary bedroom layers a custom lacquer bed, bedside tables and club chairs by Martyn Lawrence Bullard Atelier with Boheme and Turquerie fabrics from his collection. Phillip Jeffries grasscloth, Pindler upholstery, Scandia Home bedding, an Opuz blanket, a Woven rug, Visual Comfort & Co. lamps, a Handmade Story pendant and Katrien van der Schueren artwork add luxe layers to the retreat.
Fashion is woven through the house almost as vividly as color. “Many wallpapers were included in the design of the home, which adds a European flair to the interiors,” Bullard says. In the primary bedroom, the walls and drapery are upholstered in a custom paper-backed version of his Turquerie fabric in pink and green, its shades inspired by favorite pieces in Keyes’ wardrobe. An MLB Atelier lacquer bed, bedside tables wrapped in Phillip Jeffries Cultured Turquoise Glam Grass and rose quartz Dogwood knobs by Modern Matter turn the room into a jewel box. Pindler jade club chairs, a Woven rug, Visual Comfort lamps and a petal chandelier from The Handmade Story complete the composition.
The dressing rooms carry the fantasy further. Lacquer cabinetry in Benjamin Moore Fruit Shake and Minty Green meets Cole & Son palm-leaf wallpaper, vintage Karl Springer stools and a Visual Comfort Talia chandelier. In the couture closet, Phillip Jeffries butterfly wallpaper surrounds custom MLB Atelier Marilyn chairs, a John Lyle butterfly table and Dior pieces displayed on customized mannequins.
A vintage Carlo Scarpa dining table anchors the dining room beneath an Atelier de Troupe Etoile chandelier, surrounded by Martyn Lawrence Bullard Atelier chairs upholstered in Toray Ultrasuede’s Marsala. A lacquer-and-bronze cabinet from Hive Palm Beach, Russell Young’s Audrey Hepburn diamond dust and black- and-white photography from Fahey/Klein Gallery add an artful pop.
“Having an extensive collection of beautiful vintage designer clothing and couture pieces, we had to create a dressing room that captured the client’s glamour and love of beauty and allowed the pieces to become visions of artwork,” Bullard says. “We chose a collection of Dior pieces to exhibit on customized mannequins, thus allowing our client to enjoy the beauty of these gowns even when not wearing them.”
Outside, the palace loosens its corset. JANUS et Cie butterfly chairs in Liberty of London’s jade Fantasia Jungle fabric gather around a CB2 terrazzo table, while Serena & Lily umbrellas cast striped shade. Beside the pool, Bullard’s custom Alice in Wonderland daybed—painted Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White and piled with blush, jade and ivory cushions—introduces a final note of fantasy.
In the powder room, Christopher Farr Cloth’s Bulu grasscloth in fuchsia adds a warm pink glow.
Villa Dolphin is pink without becoming precious, opulent without losing its sense of play. In Bullard’s hands, the pink palace is less a confection than a highly personal portrait: glamorous, tropical and modern, with every room designed not simply to be lived in but to make its owner feel entirely at home.
In the couture closet, Phillip Jeffries’ Butterfly Sky wallcovering in Painted Lady sets the scene for Martyn Lawrence Bullard Atelier Marilyn chairs, a John Lyle Design butterfly side table and a Soho Home mirror. Jim Thompson Seda fabric trims the Roman shade, with Romo Vintage Rose pillows and a Marc Phillips rug completing the space.
