After stints at Polo Ralph Lauren, The Gap and J.Crew, Todd Snyder took a leap of faith and opened his first eponymous store 15 years ago, teaching men elementary fashion math: iconic pieces yield endless, enduring style. His new Austin outpost offers everything from basics and accessories to suiting and tailoring services, plus, as he explains, so much more.
Tell us about the store—will anything be exclusive to Austin? With every store we open, it’s important to me that it feels like an extension of my design sensibility, but it’s equally important that it feels unique and natural to the location, too. Here in Austin, that meant taking the clean lines and neutral tones I gravitate towards and giving them a little bit of Southern ease and warmth. Our store will contain the Danish brand Frama’s first-ever Care Space in the country, along with some great limited-edition styles, like Hamilton dress shirts and Red Wing boots.
What are some essentials every man should have in his wardrobe? This question is exactly why we’ve assembled our EPs, or “Essential Pieces.” Most men don’t want to have to think about getting dressed; they just want to get it right. For me, that means investing in core styles like a great pair of jeans, a classic chore coat, a soft sweater and a versatile suit. Prioritize styles that will outlast trends, where tailoring, fit and fabrics are the focus— pieces like that will work with everything you already have.
