World Cruise bookings at Pavlus Travel & Cruise are up more than 20 percent year over year, with the multi-month voyages—typically ranging from 80 to 187 days—drawing not just affluent retirees but a growing crowd of remote workers, entrepreneurs, and even influencers.
“For our luxury customers, World Cruises are so much more than simply a vacation,” said Craig Pavlus, founder and CEO, Pavlus Travel & Cruise, a member of the Travel Leaders Network. “They’re journeys to adventure and the ultimate luxury travel experience.”
The agency points to several trends fueling the growth, starting with the routes themselves. World Cruises have traditionally sailed east to west (or in reverse) around the globe, often transiting the Suez Canal. With recent geopolitical issues steering many ships away from that waterway, lines have rethought their maps.
“It’s exciting to witness how the luxury lines have adapted and innovated with new World Cruise routes to keep the experience fresh and appealing,” said Rose Morrissey, a Pavlus personal travel planner.
Some itineraries now loop the Pacific or circumnavigate Australia as part of a longer sailing. Seabourn‘s 83-day “World Cruise: Australia In-depth & Panama Canal” departs Sydney for Miami on March 9, 2027, while Crystal will operate a 127-night World Cruise from Melbourne to New York in early 2029.
“Most notably, though, new Arctic-to-Antarctica longitudinal World Cruise routings are drawing some younger guests who seek adventure, eco-beauty, and a more expeditionary approach within such a lengthy journey,” Pavlus said.
Viking‘s 81-day “Arctic to Antarctic Explorer,” sailing from Nuuk, Greenland, to Ushuaia, Argentina, on September 15, 2028, has already sold out.

Ports of call are shifting, too. While marquee stops such as Hong Kong, Sydney, and Rio de Janeiro remain staples, lines are layering in more remote destinations. Oceania Cruises‘ 180-day “2029 Around the World” voyage on Oceania Aurelia, sailing Los Angeles to New York beginning January 6, 2029, calls at Indonesia’s Komodo Island and Igoumenitsa in northwestern Greece, the gateway to the Nikopolis archaeological site built by Octavian to commemorate his victory over Marc Antony and Cleopatra.
Guests are also getting more time in each destination. Azamara‘s 175-night World Cruise from Miami to Athens, departing January 5, 2028, visits 45 countries with 68 late-night stays and overnights in port, including Papeete, Tahiti; Hobart, Tasmania; Cochin, India; and a double overnight in Hong Kong.
Overland journeys are another draw.
“I’m definitely seeing more requests for overland-type adventures by my guests who’ve booked a World Cruise,” said Lee Alvarez, a Pavlus personal travel planner, who recently helped clients reserve one line’s “two-to-three-night overland adventure to go see the Taj Mahal and do a little touring.”
During Silversea‘s 125-day “A Pacific Awakening” cruise on Silver Whisper, sailing San Diego to Singapore beginning January 5, 2029, guests can take a complimentary three-day “Terracotta Warriors: The Qin Dynasty” overland journey from Shanghai to Hong Kong, with exclusive after-hours access to the Terracotta Warriors in Xian.
Better connectivity is broadening the guest mix beyond retirees. Alvarez recently booked a couple in their 50s — both influencers — on Regent Seven Seas Cruises‘ 2027 World Cruise; the ultra-luxury line now offers high-speed Starlink fleetwide.
“Definitely fueling the expanding World Cruise guest demographics is that luxury cruise lines have added Starlink or other shipboard technology upgrades,” said Pavlus.
Earlier reveals of routings, itineraries, and pricing are also giving remote workers, entrepreneurs, and committed once-in-a-lifetime travelers more runway to plan and pay.
For advisors, timing matters: lines typically open World Cruise reservations to loyal past guests first, with the general public following days later.
“My top tip is to ensure your personal travel planner knows about your desire to experience this type of extensive journey, because things move quickly and voyages can sell out fast,” said Morrissey.
New players are entering the space as well. Celebrity Cruises launches its first-ever World Cruise this fall, a 110-night sailing from Alaska to Asia visiting 58 destinations, and Explora Journeys‘ 128-day “Inaugural World Journey: Endless Worlds” sets sail in 2029.
