2 min readThe house that appeared as Lorelai and Rory Gilmore’s home in the pilot episode of Gilmore Girls is now for sale, marking its first time on the market in 24 years.
The 2,840-square-foot property is located in Unionville, a neighborhood within Markham, Ontario. It’s listed for $3.88 million CAD, or $2.7 million USD. The home last sold in 2002.
Built around 1875, the house served as the Gilmore girls’ residence only in the pilot episode; every subsequent episode was filmed on a Warner Bros. soundstage in Burbank, California. This neighborhood still has a few of the other filming locations from the pilot, including the storefront that stood in for Luke’s Diner, the Markham Train Station, which doubled as the exterior of Miss Patty’s dance studio, and the red brick church that appears in the episode’s opening shot of Stars Hollow.
The property includes two staircases, three fireplaces, exposed wood beams, and a wet bar. The kitchen features a center island with barstool seating and direct access to an exterior deck, and the primary bedroom includes a fireplace and its own private walkout. Until 1984, a detached 550-square-foot building on the lot previously operated as the town’s bakery. It has since been renovated with heating, air conditioning, electricity, and internet access, allowing it to function as a studio, office, or guest space. The property backs onto a ravine and river.
The listing follows the show’s departure from Netflix on June 30, after 12 years on the platform. All seven seasons remain available to stream on Hulu, Disney+, and Prime Video.
