Perhaps you could head to a striking architectural landmark on New York’s Fire Island, which just hit the market for $3.3 million. Dating to 1960, the three-bedroom property is one of the most distinctive buildings on the barrier island hot spot, due in no small part to its pyramidal silhouette that affords breathtaking views of the beach and ocean.
Halfway around the world, a villa by famed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma hit the market in the resort town of Karuizawa, Japan. Known for its lush forests and scenic beauty, the area is home to an ancient Shinto shrine as well as natural hot springs. Here, on a wooded parcel, the architect crafted a sophisticated residence inspired by the region’s reputation for prime bird-watching, with a series of structures that feature oversized eaves that flare out like an avian wing.

One of the most recognizable houses on New York’s Fire Island just hit the market for $3.3 million. Listed by Esteban Gomez of Compass, the Pyramid House was designed by Argentine-born architect Julio Kaufman in 1960 and has been periodically refreshed and expanded over the decades to its present 2,100-square-foot size. Now featuring three bedrooms, the property is just moments from the beach—the federally protected Fire Island National Seashore—and has a saltwater pool plus a soaring great room with views of the Atlantic. For its next owner, summers will never be the same.
A Kengo Kuma–Designed Villa in Japan
A home by Kengo Kuma hit the market in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture.
In the forests of Karuizawa, a Japanese resort town about 100 miles outside of central Tokyo, noted architect Kengo Kuma—who just won the Andrée Putman Lifetime Achievement Award—crafted a lyrical house inspired by birds in flight. (The residence is near Karuizawa’s famed Wild Bird Forest.) Comprised of four glass-walled pavilions, the 2016 residence blurs the boundaries between the house and its surroundings thanks to expansive terraces and a material palette that leans heavy on timber. Set on a little over half an acre, the property is on the market for roughly $10 million with List Sotheby’s International Realty.
Angelina Jolie’s Los Angeles Estate
Angelina Jolie is parting with her Los Angeles home.
Back in May, Angelina Jolie listed a legendary Los Angeles address inextricably linked to Old Hollywood: her Laughlin Park home that once belonged to famed filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille. The house is still on the market—available for $29.85 million with Ernie Carswell of Sotheby’s—but it made waves this week thanks to an item in The New York Post. Apparently, pop icon Madonna (whose former London home is on the rental market) is eyeing the property, which features an 11,000-square-foot main house built in 1913. Prospective buyers should take note.
A Frank Gehry Loft in Los Angeles
A loft in a Frank Gehry building is now for sale.
Pritzker Prize–winning architect Frank Gehry passed away last year at age 96, leaving behind a towering legacy that included the unfinished Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, set to open in December. Now, you can own one of his earlier creations, as a residential loft in a 1992 Santa Monica complex just hit the market for $2.39 million. The six-unit building was designed in conjunction with Gehry’s close friend, artist Chuck Arnoldi, and originally served as artist studios and lofts. The three-bedroom triplex, which spans nearly 2,600 square feet, is listed with Brandon Assanti of The Agency.
Alec Baldwin Relists Hamptons Home
The Baldwin estate is back on the market in Amagansett.
Fourth time’s the charm? Alec and Hilaria Baldwin have once again put their Hamptons home on the market. The price is the same as the last time the couple tried offloading the ten-acre property in June: $18.995 million. But now they have a new real estate agent, Lori Schiaffino of Compass. The farmhouse-style house will look familiar to fans of their short-lived TLC reality show, The Baldwins. The couple originally listed the estate in 2022 for $29 million, meaning they’ve cut a total of 34.5 percent off the first asking price.
