Kennedy, has found a buyer for her Cape Cod beach house just days after listing it for $1.59 million, per Realtor.com. Located a mile and a half from her family’s legendary Hyannis Port compound, the ranch-style home has five bedrooms, a rear garden designed for entertaining, and deeded access to the nearby beach.
The first woman to serve as lieutenant governor of Maryland, Kennedy Townsend grew up spending summers at the six-acre Kennedy compound, specifically in the Victorian-style charmer that her parents, Robert F. and Ethel Kennedy, bought in the 1950s. She acquired the 3,200-square-foot Massachusetts retreat in 2023 for $1.275 million, per data from Zillow, hoping to continue the tradition of holding big family gatherings for the next generation.
The property comes with deeded access to the nearby beach.
“I had a dream that I would recreate the youth, the wonderful youth that I had, for my children and grandchildren,” she told The Boston Globe. “I wanted it to be a place where you could have a number of people enjoy themselves and use the beach and be in a safe place.”
In the end, however, she opted to part with the Breakwater Shores property, which sits on a quarter-acre lot and borders a pond in the back. She listed it on May 6, and by May 16, Zillow had labeled it as “pending,” meaning there was an accepted offer. The purchase price is not yet publicly available.
That the three-level residence sold in a matter of days is on par with Hyannis Port’s competitive real estate scene. Per data from real-estate site Redfin, listings spend an average of just nine days on the market before finding a buyer.
