Accommodation prices on the Greek islands have more than doubled since 2019 for autumn stays, as growing demand extends Greece’s tourism season beyond the traditional summer peak.
According to data presented by Virtuoso, a leading international network of luxury travel advisors, at its 38th annual Travel Week conference in Las Vegas, average daily rates at luxury properties on Greek islands are 131% higher than in 2019.
Greece ranks eighth among the world’s most popular destinations for autumn travel, behind the US, Italy, France, Mexico, Japan, the UK and Spain, and ahead of French Polynesia and Canada.
The figures reflect a broader shift toward autumn tourism across the Mediterranean and Europe. Since 2019, luxury accommodation prices have risen by 179% on the French Riviera and 78% in Italy’s Apulia region. Across Europe, autumn sales are up 64% year-on-year, while bookings have increased 49%. Average daily hotel rates have also risen 7.4% from last year.
The trend is evident globally. Autumn sales are 69% higher than in the first half of 2025, while bookings have risen 59%. Virtuoso network activity in 2026 is more than 20% above last year, led by hotel sales, which are up 24.5%, followed by cruises at 22.4%.
Demand is also strong for the upcoming festive season, with sales up 56% and bookings 65% higher.
The increase comes despite substantially higher accommodation costs. The average daily rate for luxury hotel bookings in the US has reached $1,445, compared with $790 in 2019, while international hotel average rates have risen to $1,653 from $985.
Virtuoso attributes the trend partly to a 29% increase since 2021 in the global population of individuals with assets exceeding $30 million. Average leisure-trip spending has risen from $8,400 in 2022 to $12,400, with travelers taking an average of six trips annually.
Longer stays, multi-destination itineraries and increased use of private aviation are also shaping the luxury travel market.
